MySQLThe newest development version of Drupal's Backup and Migrate module enables automatically scheduled database backups to be emailed off-site. However, due to a bug, it takes a little work to actually make this happen. The problem is, the module doesn't properly store your preferred email address. Here's how we work it...

EDIT: JULY 16, 2009: The developers fixed this issue; there is no need for this hack now!

Drupal Logo Drupal updates are tedious--downloading individual files, uploading, manually running the update.php script... If you're administering more than one Drupal installation, it becomes tiring quickly. I've found two ways of solving these problems: the Drush utility and using Acquia's Drupal distribution.

So, the new site design is finally ready. I built this sucker from the ground up, using the Blueprint Grid CSS system, which is pretty freakin' slick! I'll post more about this later, including some documentation on what makes this theme tick and the views/panels magic hiding beneath the surface.

I've made a few changes-- I've unpublished all of my nonprofit writing, pending a transfer to my new venture, Standing Rock Partners, LLC. I'm also going to narrow down the topics that I post, and I'll have a gallery of my video and photography work coming up soon.

Here are some of the college/new media links I follow to keep up with the news of the news:

College Rag - I like to get my news on student media from student run websites. College Rag is run by two students from UNC-Chapel Hill.
College Media Matters
Journerdism - This is Will Sullivan's site, the Interactive Director at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Journerdism does a great job of finding interesting stories about the "state of the media"
ProBlogger Blog Tips - I also follow problogger on twitter. Great tips for budding bloggers.

Facebook Ads Landing PageGetting the word out about your website is a huge challenge in the college media world. Part of the problem is that traditional promotional activities don't necessarily target your website's audience.

When I think of promotions, I think of contests, giveaways, and most of all, posters. Yearbooks coming in? Make a poster! Student government elections coming up? Make a poster! Cool videos on the website? Make a... poster?!?
